University of Sydney Great Hall

The University of Sydney ‘Great Hall’ was designed by Sir Edmund Thomas Blacket

(modelled on Westminster Hall) and over the last 150 years has been used for banquets, public lectures, exams, commemorations and memorial services, book launches, musicals and dramatic productions, and for the conferring of degrees upon some of Australia most noted Prime Ministers.

Steensen Varming was commissioned to undertake the lighting design of the heritage building, including the restoration and refurbishment of the existing heritage pendant luminaires with current LED technology, and the design of a pair of custom new pendant luminaires to increase the illumination levels within the space. The design also incorporates concealed colour changing theatrical style luminaires which provide flexibility in lighting scenes to cater for the various functions of the space.
